Our Techniques
Our Chiropractic Doctors at Nervana Chiropractic use a number of highly effective adjusting techniques to help improve spinal mobility and to reduce nervous system blockages. The techniques we use are based on our extensive training at university, our many years of clinical experience, knowledge and skill as well as on the results of an initial examination, in most cases X-ray findings and a consultation with you .
The primary adjusting techniques we use include:
Adjustment/manipulation
The chiropractor feels the movement of the spine while you are laying face down and a specific manual thrust is administered to correct the subluxation (misalignment). Our highly experienced chiropractors exactly assess the direction, speed, depth and angle It is not uncommon that a slight noise from the shifting of gas and fluids in the joint is heard. This sound is not a guide as to the value or effectiveness of the adjustment. This manoeuvre also results in instant localised relaxation of the surrounding muscles and tissues. Spinal adjustment/manipulation reduces nervous system interferences. All joints of the body can be adjusted to help restore proper range of motion. Think of an adjustment as "tuning" a piano, adjusting each string so it produces the perfect tone.
Thompson

The Thompson Terminal Point Technique, developed by Dr. J. Clay Thompson, has developed into a system of analysis and a way of adjusting the full spine. The combination produces precise adjustments and high levels of practice member comfort. This technique requires the use of a specifically designed chiropractic table, on which the practice member lays face down. Individual cushions or “drop pieces”, support each area of your spine until the thrust is delivered. Then each drop-piece gently gives way, reducing the amount of energy needed to move a specific spinal segment.
Gonstead technique
Named after its developer, Dr. Clarence Gonstead explains how a subluxation pattern in one area of the spine can produce compensatory changes in another. To adjust your lower spine and pelvis, you lie on your side. To adjust the middle back you assume a comfortable kneeling position. When you are seated, we can restore the integrity of your spine without twisting or rotating your neck. The Gonstead Technique is acknowledged as one of the safest systems of evaluating and caring for the spine.
Activator Methods®

This is a system of spinal evaluation combined with a handheld adjusting instrument that delivers a consistent, low-force thrust. The Activator Methods® Adjusting Instrument is a handheld spring-loaded tool that delivers a consistent low-force, high-speed thrust. Because it’s many times faster than adjustments delivered by hand, the body rarely tightens to resist, making adjustments comfortable and effective. It’s also helpful for adjusting elbows, wrists, knees and other joints of the body. It is particularly used successfully in managing babies and children, and people with osteoporosis.
After your adjustment, we retest to make sure changes have been produced. Testing afterwards helps us deliver high-quality care and high levels of satisfaction .We analyse how well your spine moves and how well you turn and bend. While you’re lying face down, we’ll evaluate the length of your legs. This simple procedure can reveal significant differences in leg lengths.
Webster Technique/ Intrauterine Constraint
This is a technique that is only used on a pregnant woman. Developed by the late Larry Webster, D.C., this chiropractic technique releases stress on the pregnant woman's pelvis, relaxing the uterus and surrounding ligaments and permitting the baby to turn naturally. As the due date draws near, most babies assume a head-down position in the mother's uterus. Sacral subluxation causes the tightening and twisting of pelvic muscles and ligaments, warping the uterus. These tense muscles and ligaments prevent the baby from comfortably assuming the proper head-down position. If the baby hasn’t turned, there is a greater chance of a more difficult breech birth or risky Caesarean intervention.
The Webster Technique reduces interference to the nervous system, improves pelvic balance and allows the baby to assume the optimal position for birth. Sometimes, using the Webster Technique the baby can turn in just one adjustment. But usually it takes between three to 10 visits over a several week period.
All Nervana Clinics see a great number of pregnant patients each week with many having professional affiliations with local midwives.
Neuro Impulse Protocol
The NIP technique came about during the 1990’s. was developed by Dr Neil J Davies D.C, the author of “Chiropractic Paediatrics A Clinical Handbook” published by Churchill Livingstone. Dr Davies developed a technique to be used on babies that was absolutely precise neurologically, but extremely gentle in its application.
It was found to be just as applicable to adults. At Nervana the technique is mainly used on children, but sometimes on adults who are very sensitive, and who need a gentle approach to their care, such as elderly with osteoporosis.
Torque Release Technique (TRT)

TRT focuses a lot of attention on the relationship of the spinal cord as it relates to the spinal column: The chiropractor gently and methodically adjusts these areas of your spinal cord, bringing about change in the degree of tension in the central nervous system.
